Ceramic crowns

For reconstruction of lost function and aesthetics of teeth

CERAMIC CROWNS

Ceramic crowns are prosthetic replacements which are permanently fixated onto the prepared teeth or dental implants with the aim of restoring the lost function and aesthetics of teeth.

Dental crowns are used in cases when a tooth is so badly damaged that fillings cannot be used on it, when a tooth is weakened by cavities due to endodontic treatment or deterioration of the prosthetic replacement.

Teeth which had large cavities and teeth which had undergone endodontic treatment usually suffered major damage and the best course of action would be to protect them with a crown. For aesthetic reasons, the crowns can be used to model rotated or crooked teeth.

Dental crowns can be used to get rid of tooth discolouration, especially those which had undergone endodontic treatment, which causes discoloration, and a skilled dental technician can choose the material and colour to achieve the desired effect.

THE ADVANTAGES OF COMPLETELY CERAMIC CROWNS IN COMPARISON TO METAL-CERAMIC CROWNS

  • Hardness - E.max ceramics is up to 3 times harder than tooth enamel, which makes the fear of such crowns breaking completely unfounded.
  • Aesthetic - Complete ceramics perfectly imitate the optical properties of natural teeth. Properties such as translucence, opalescence, transparency and fluorescence can be completely transferred onto ceramics, which results in a crown which cannot be told apart from a natural tooth.
  • Biocompatibility - Unlike metal, ceramics doesn't cause allergies and the tissue can tolerate it quite well.
  • Durability - Under the influence of dampness in the oral cavity, metal corrodes and releases metal particles that stay in gums and can cause dark discoloration.

THE DISADVANTAGES OF COMPLETELY CERAMIC CROWNS IN COMPARISON TO METAL-CERAMIC CROWNS

  • Complicated production - Creating completely ceramic crowns is very complex, both for the dentist and the dental technician.
  • Price - Due to complexity of production, completely ceramic crowns are financially more demanding than metal-ceramic crowns.
  • Teeth grinding - Bad habits, such as nocturnal teeth grinding (bruxsism) can have a bad effect on ceramics.

Regardless of the characteristics of the material, it is necessary to consult your dentist in order to find an optimal solution that is in line with the situation in the mouth.
